Maya Angelou died today. She was 86. If you don’t know who she is, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU FIND OUT ASAP. I mean this. She is someone you want to know about, and trust me, you never want to be caught in conversation and be the only one silent when her name comes up.

JUNIORS AND SENIORS-JOURNALS

journals have been extended!

TUESDAY/WEDNESDAY: I will do a journals check depending on your class period. please be ready. it is a quiz grade. there are only four entries this time.

1. vivid dream. describe a very vivid dream you had that left you thinking about it all day. fill in the gaps. if you do not recall your dreams, create one.

2. imaginary friend. talk about an imaginary friend you once had, or make one up.

3. future child. describe your first first born child. what are they like? pick an age where you sit down and give them advice. reflect.

4. favorite flaws. pick a flaw you have. embrace it. talk about why it is your favorite flaw and how it makes you unique.

Juniors Homework and updates

p. 2, 4, 6 only: you will have a quiz tomorrow and friday in class on their eyes were watching god. we will also finish up the movie and have a class discussion as well as a springboard activity. Friday we will go over your analytical essays and work on them.

DUE MONDAY 04/07

– create a powerpoint with 5-10 (the more the better) images that relate to a PERSONAL theme of yours. Take into consideration that The Arrival is about a cultural perspective on being a child of immigrants. Keep your images focused on a theme. You may use any source for your images, personal drawings, internet, photos, etc. 

-write a one page FRONT AND BACK reflection, referring to at least three of those images specifically. 

-you will be presenting your powerpoint/images in class for a grade.

create a BOOK REPORT WITH:

-cover sheet, times new roman, double-spaced, name, date and period
-every assignment must have a header with name date and period and a title for the specific assignment

1) Book summary including quotes and details from book
2) character sketch, select a character and WRITE about their progress, description, development, etc.
3) figurative language chart, 20 examples of figurative language, at least 5 different ones, must include type of figurative language, quote from book with chapter and location, and analysis
4) reflection

On Tuesday you will have group discussions and presentations on a text assigned in class on the historical critical perspective of Othello. This assignment will help you with your in class essays on thursday.

On Thursday you will have a basic multiple choice exam on Othello by William Shakespeare, AND your 45 minute in class essay directly after the exam.

This weekend focus on re-reading key aspects of Othello you can use in your essays.
